We now describe the four independent statistical calculations which
we have used to analyse average age time series

In particular we are interested in calculating the Hurst parameter H, which is a measure of the degree to which a time series is self-similar. The calculations are based on [Leland 1994], [Garrett 1994], [Mandelbrot 1969]--[Beran 1992].
