Statistical calculations

We now describe the four independent statistical calculations which we have used to analyse average age time series , , generated by the network. In all the calculations reported below, . The network was actually run for more than token passes and the first 12% of values of were rejected to exclude the initial transient.

In particular we are interested in calculating the Hurst parameter H, which is a measure of the degree to which a time series is self-similar. The calculations are based on [Leland 1994], [Garrett 1994], [Mandelbrot 1969]--[Beran 1992].
